GROUND BREAKING TECHNOLOGY
The first generation of Angel Eye camera, introduced in 2006, was an exciting breakthrough for parents who were unable to stay at the hospital due to work and other obligations. The program was the first in the United States to deliver real-time video of the hospitalized infants directly to their remote families. Ten years later, Angel Eye Health™ continues to invest in their technology, team and passion to keep families connected throughout each phase of neonatal care.
Angel Eye Camera Systems, LLC, was founded in 2013 with the support of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) BioVentures. Angel Eye designs, develops and delivers Internet-based camera systems allowing parents and families to see and interact with their baby in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) via live video streaming and direct, one-way audio. The Angel Eye Health™ platform uses a camera placed at the baby’s bedside so that parents and other family members who can’t be at the NICU can view the baby 24 hours a day by logging into a secure account from their laptop, tablet or smart phone. This system helps promote bonding between parents and their premature babies, who sometimes have to stay in the hospital for weeks or months.
In 2006, UAMS created the first prototype for Angel Eye with webcams mounted on IV poles next to infant beds. A second generation of the technology using a bed-mounted camera unit was developed in 2009. Three years later, Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, Penn., became the first health care facility outside UAMS to deploy the technology. UAMS established BioVentures and its Technology Licensing Office to facilitate the commercialization of UAMS technology and assist in the startup of new business enterprises based on UAMS technology that translates its research endeavors such as Angel Eye™ technology into products that benefit human health. In 2012, the Arkansas Development Finance Authority, through its Arkansas Seed & Angel Capital Network program, provided $500,000 to TriStar Technology Ventures in Nashville, Tenn., to invest in Angel Eye Camera Systems. The Angel Eye Camera Systems, LLC was organized in January 2013 to exclusively license this proprietary technology from UAMS.
Since 2013, Angel Eye Health™ has grown to include 40 partner hospitals across the country, with several pending installations. Angel Eye Health™ is headquartered in Little Rock, Arkansas, with offices in Nashville, Tennessee, and is exclusively distributed by International Biomedical.
